Diamond Education:
Selecting the ideal diamond for your engagement ring involves a multifaceted approach. While the traditional 4Cs of diamond quality—cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight—provide a solid foundation, our comprehensive 7Cs framework offers an expanded perspective to ensure you discover your perfect match.
Embark on a journey to create jewellery that reflects your unique story. Begin by selecting the shape of your central diamond, which sets the tone for your piece's final design. With the ability to personalize not only rings but also necklaces and earrings, you have the creative freedom to design heirlooms that resonate with your personal style and sentiment.
How are Diamond Graded
When it comes to diamonds, professionals in the industry rely on the grading system developed by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in the 1950s. This system established four important factors to describe and classify diamonds: Clarity, Colour, Cut, and Carat Weight. These factors, commonly referred to as the 4Cs, play a crucial role in determining the quality and value of a diamond.

Carat
Pretty things may come in small boxes, but what’s in those boxes better be big. That is, yes, size does matter. However - carat weight is not the same thing as size - how large a diamond appears is also dictated by other factors such as shape and cut, so it is important to understand carat weight beyond the value it is generally and often mistakenly ascribed.

Cut
The cut of a diamond refers to how well it has been shaped and faceted. It is not to be confused with the shape of the diamond, which can vary (e.g., round, princess, emerald, etc.). The cut grade evaluates the diamond's ability to reflect and refract light, affecting its brilliance and overall beauty.
Colour
The colour of a diamond is graded on a scale from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow or brown). The less colour a diamond has, the higher its grade and value. Colourless diamonds allow more light to pass through, resulting in greater brilliance and sparkle.

Clarity
Clarity refers to the presence of internal and external characteristics, known as inclusions and blemishes, within a diamond. The GIA grades diamonds on a scale ranging from Flawless (no inclusions or blemishes visible under 10x magnification) to Included (inclusions and/or blemishes visible to the naked eye).

Carat Weight
Carat weight measures the size of a diamond. One carat is equal to 200 milligrams. While carat weight is often associated with size, it is important to note that a diamond's cut can greatly impact its perceived size. A well-cut diamond can appear larger than a poorly cut diamond of the same carat weight.
It is important to understand that the 4Cs work together to determine a diamond's quality and value. For example, a diamond with a high carat weight may not be as valuable if it has poor clarity or colour. Similarly, a diamond with excellent clarity and colour may not be as brilliant if it has a subpar cut.

Education is the key to success in any industry, and the jewellery industry is no exception. When it comes to buying, selling, and appraising jewellery, having the necessary knowledge and confidence is crucial. That's why IGI, the world's first gemological laboratory to receive ISO 17025 certification for natural and laboratory-grown diamonds, places a strong emphasis on education
Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the ISO includes 165 participating countries and nearly 800 technical committees and subcommittees overseeing standards development. Their 17025 laboratory competence certification is perhaps the single most important standard for calibration and testing laboratories across the globe, covering all laboratory environments, regardless of size or scope.
IGI's commitment to education extends beyond its training programs. They also conduct research and publish industry-leading reports and publications. These resources serve as valuable references for professionals and enthusiasts alike, providing them with up-to-date information on the latest trends, developments, and best practices in the jewellery industry.
By prioritising education, IGI aims to elevate the standards of the jewellery industry and ensure that consumers can make informed decisions when purchasing jewellery. Their ISO 17025 certification further demonstrates their commitment to excellence and their dedication to providing accurate and reliable information.
Whether you are a professional in the jewellery industry or a consumer looking to make a purchase, investing in education is essential. By acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills, you can navigate the jewellery market with confidence and make informed decisions that align with your preferences and values.
Remember, education is the key to success in the jewellery industry.

When it comes to purchasing a diamond, it's crucial to ensure that you are investing in a high-quality and authentic gemstone. That's why at Regal Diamonds, we prioritise the use of Gemological Institute of America (GIA) graded natural centre diamonds whenever possible.
The GIA is an internationally recognised and respected non-profit organisation that is dedicated to providing consistent, accurate, and unbiased grading reports for diamonds. Their reputation for excellence in diamond grading is unparalleled in the industry.
One of the key reasons why GIA-graded diamonds are highly valued is due to the rigorous grading process they undergo. Each diamond is evaluated by two different graders to ensure that the grading report is consistent and reliable. This doublegrading process eliminates any potential bias and ensures that you can trust the accuracy of the diamond's grading report.
GIA has developed a comprehensive and standardised grading system that allows you to confidently select a diamond without physically seeing it. This system provides detailed information about the diamond's 4Cs - carat weight, colour, clarity, and cut. By relying on GIA's grading system, you can make an informed decision and have peace of mind knowing that you are getting exactly what you selected.
Choosing a GIA-graded diamond not only guarantees the authenticity and quality of the gemstone but also offers several other benefits. GIA-graded diamonds tend to have higher resale value and are more readily accepted in the market. Their grading reports are recognised and trusted by jewellers and consumers worldwide, making them a preferred choice for those seeking a valuable and reliable investment.
At Regal Diamonds, we understand the significance of GIA-graded diamonds and their impact on the overall value and desirability of our jewellery. By using GIAgraded diamonds, we ensure that our customers receive the highest level of quality and authenticity in every piece they purchase.
When you choose Regal Diamonds, you can be confident that you are investing in exquisite jewellery crafted with GIA graded diamonds, allowing you to make a statement of timeless elegance and sophistication.
